In 2021, Monte Penumbra’s second album, As Blades in the Firmament, marked the first new title from EAL Productions in three years. Now, its successor, Austere Dawning, is set to be unleashed on December 13th, 2024 via NoEvDia.
With Austere Dawning, Monte Penumbra crafts a work as dense and profound as the void itself – a chaotic, shapeshifting force that drags the listener to the brink of the abyss. Created by the same visionaries behind As Blades in the Firmament, this album forsakes the shores of deliverance to confront the beast lurking in the shadows.
Bjarni Einarsson once again excels behind the drum kit, his inventive and precision-driven percussion forming the pulsating backbone of W.uR’s multilayered, ceremonial dissonance. The album’s soundscape feels simultaneously massive and suffocating, perfectly capturing its sinister, unrelenting spirit. Mons Vcnt contributed the visual incarnation of Austere Dawning, as well as its interludes.
Spanning seven volatile compositions, Austere Dawning delves deep into the turbulent realms of cutting-edge black metal, forged in the same cursed fires that birthed the genre’s earliest pioneers.
