"Popiel" is an excerpt of Juliusz Słowacki's epic poem Król Duch. The lyrics tell the story of a spirit incarnating in the bodies of Polish kings, beginning a journey of madness and magic with Popiel. The track's intense narrative is a perfect representation of Tenebris's unique sound, blending their death metal origins with progressive and jazz influences.
Founded in Łódź in 1991, Tenebris is one of Poland's most original and long-running metal bands. “Kochanowski” is a musical continuation of their 2018 EP, “Legendarna”, and delves into the surprising, esoteric side of Polish poet Jan Kochanowski. The band's frontman, Siwy Jaszy, discovered that Kochanowski’s epigrams were a labyrinth based on Pythagorean numerology, transforming the poet into a figure of magical arts.
The album's creative process began in 2021 and was completed in 2025, with lyrics drawing from literary giants like Kochanowski, Słowacki, Adam Mickiewicz. The new record features special guests, including Maciej Pasiński (ex Sirrah, Pincer Consortium) on backing vocals and growls, Paweł Szamburski on clarinet, and Sylwia Levy on backing vocals.
