I was pretty sure I’d come across the name Skumstrike before. And indeed, it was at the EP called “Execution Void” which quickly kicked my hairy ass. I missed their full-length debut, even though it was released by a label right here in our backyard, but I did sit down to listen to their second album. Well, stylistically, not much has changed for these Canadians. It’s still a wild ride full steam ahead, often with eyes closed. (Continur reading)

Kompilacyjne wydawnictwo NOOTHGRUSH w październiku

 

On October 30th internationally, Nespithe Records will release a special compilation from the legendary Noothgrush, Man is His Own Tormentor, on CD format.

Noothgrush are the very definition of a CULT band. Formed in 1994 and originally existing until 2001, the Oakland, California collective promptly - and PROLIFICALLY - released a slew of split recordings for such essential '90s labels as Slap A Ham, Pessimiser, Deep Six, Bovine, Satan's Pimp, Reservoir, and many more. Through it all, they never released a full-length, and yet their sound was unmistakable and incredibly influential during their initial run: arguably next to Grief, Noothgrush brought sludge and doom to the wider hardcore-punk underground in the 1990s, which then sowed its influence into the next millennium. During that millennium, the band would re-form and be active again during 2011-2018, releasing splits with the equally cult Suppression and Coffins as well as an EP, and of course returning to the stage, perhaps the penultimate place to experience Noothgrush's tortured, utterly crushing waves of bleakness and despair.

Despite the lack of an album, Noothgrush kept a high profile in that underground, and it was 1996 where they released perhaps their most pivotal recordings. In the last four months of that year, Noothgrush appeared on their first four records: Embraced by the Anti Self 7" EP, the Cry Now, Cry Later Vol. 4 double-7" compilation, the Accidental Decapitation Through Masturbation! six-way split 7", and the Useless split 7" with Agents of Satan. The band also recorded a live set earlier that year on the campus radio station at Stanford University, playing songs that wouldn't otherwise see release until several years later. This live set was dubbed onto old used cassettes which were duplicated and distributed through the global tape-trading network of the 90's, and titled Live on KZSU May 1, 1996. While some of these tracks would variously appear on posthumous compilations of Noothgrush's scattered work, never before have they been collected together in their entirety. As such, not only is the 73-minute Man is His Own Tormentor vital for archival completism, more so does it serve as the most complete, eternally compelling snapshot of the band at their creative peak. As a bonus, the compilation concludes with a live song from a February 9th, 1996 show, for the first time on CD.

Before Norwegian Black Metal devoured everything in its path, AMPUTATION were spitting Death Metal from the deepest, most cavernous depths of the abyss. AVULSED now resurrects "Heavenly Grace", taken from their 2nd demo from 1990, turning it into the 10th descent into the depths of "Nordic Embryogenesis". From their ashes, IMMORTAL would later emerge.

Dave Rotten himself comments the following about this song:

"Norway never had a particularly prolific Death Metal scene, as although a few bands emerged between '89 and '90, almost all of them quickly jumped on the Black Metal bandwagon in '91, something that never really happened in the rest of the Nordic countries. It was a sudden trend that wiped out what little Death Metal scene there was. AMPUTATION are a perfect example, having released two demos in '89 and '90 before Abbath and Demonaz decided to form IMMORTAL together with the drummer, who went on to play guitar on the first demo. Their close ties with OLD FUNERAL meant that members of those bands, AMPUTATION and IMMORTAL kept rotating between them, creating a real mess of comings, goings and collaborations between the three, haha!!

The song we're covering here comes from their 2nd and final demo from 1990, which contained only two tracks, but they had a darkness, heaviness and intensity that drove me crazy, despite the poor sound quality. Let's say they were some kind of IMMOLATION (they even copied their logo), although somewhat more primitive and savage. If you listen to that demo on YouTube, you'll realize what a real challenge it was, especially for Alejandro Lobo, to figure out what the hell was going on there, haha!! Deciphering the phonetics of the vocals was also a delicate job. This really has been a true disemtombment, because the sound seemed to be coming from underground, haha!!

I wasn't really sure what we would end up achieving here, but the result has been incredible. We brought out the intensity and darkness of the song while keeping, I think, the spirit of the original, but with everything in its place and with a more "audible" sound. AMPUTATION left behind only two demos of primitive Death Metal that never received much recognition, mainly because what came afterwards, IMMORTAL, overshadowed everything".

A new piece of this dark puzzle will be revealed every friday until September 4th.

"Scorn Eternal" conjures a cataclysm of sinister blast beats and possessed riffs, shattering dogma in a blistering onslaught of sacrilegious death metal. Formed in Kraków in 2019, Cursebinder set out to dissolve the lines between extreme metal and just about anything else. The self-produced demo EP (2020) announced the intention; the debut full-length Drifting (Avantgarde Music, 2023) delivered on it, with forty minutes of haunting atmosphere, nuanced guitar work and shifting rhythms that earned the band a reputation for music impossible to pin down and difficult to forget.

Today, Brazilian black metallers Power From Hell reveal the new track "Psalm of Corruption." For over 25 years now, Power From Hell have been flying the flag for ancient black metal. Led by founding vocalist / guitarist Sodomic, the band's first four albums spanning 2004-2011 established the Brazilians as staunch purveyors of vintage violence, depthless darkness, and straightforward simplicity. In 2015, the band aligned with Hells Headbangers for the release of Devil's Whorehouse, which brought this sound to a boil while simultaneously expanding their ghostly aura. Thereafter, Power From Hell released two more albums, 2019's Profound Evil Essence and 2022's Shadows Devouring Light, both of which saw a certain maturity and a shedding of older, comparatively archaic skin.

Now, more than a decade later, Power From Hell return to Hells Headbangers for the release of their eighth album. "Returning to Hells Headbangers feels very special to us, states Sodomic. "Hells Headbangers has always represented a very important part of the extreme underground, and being back with the label for Primordial Disobedience feels like returning to a place where the music can be presented exactly as it was meant to be." Provocatively titled Primordial Disobedience, indeed does LP8 show Power From Hell in fine, rule-breaking form. Arguably the band's darkest record thus far, Primordial Disobedience surges and slithers in a most serpentine fashion, fusing sooty atmospheres with challenging song constructions, mesmerizingly melodic riffing with sweat-inducing, almost-sexual tension.

Concluding, Sodomic brings it all back home: "The record is deeply connected to the underground spirit that has always surrounded Power From Hell, and Hells Headbangers understands that world better than almost anyone. Belgijski grind/deathowy BARREN przedstawia Depraved - pierwszy singiel i teledysk z najnowszej płyty Verderf. Następca debiutanckiego I ukaże się we wrześniu nakładem Selfmadegod Records. Szczegóły poniżej.

Utworzony w 2017 roku BARREN to belgijski zespół grindcore’owy, którego skład tworzą obecni i byli członkowie Agathocles, Aborted, Emeth oraz Suppository.

Określając swoją muzykę mianem „chainsaw grind”, zespół czerpie z

charakterystycznego brzmienia przesteru HM-2, kojarzonego ze szwedzkim death metalem, tworząc gęstą i miażdżącą ścianę gitar oraz basu. Bezlitosne blastbeaty i szaleńcze riffy przeplatają się z wybuchami brutalności w średnich tempach oraz ostrymi, nieprzewidywalnymi zmianami tempa.

W 2020 roku BARREN nagrał swój pierwszy materiał w Chainsaw Laboratory, zmiksowany i zmasterowany w Hearse Studios. W 2021 roku zespół własnym sumptem wydał demo oraz dwie EP-ki. Materiał szybko zwrócił uwagę Esagoya Records (JPN), które wydało te nagrania na CD. W tym samym roku Grand Vomit Productions (USA) wydało split z zespołem Berated. Następnie BARREN podpisał kontrakt z Grindhead Records (AUS), co zaowocowało wydaniem debiutanckiego albumu I.

W 2023 roku BARREN pojawił się na kilku znaczących kompilacjach, między innymi Good Guys Go Grind Vol. 2 oraz Noxious Ruin Magazine Vol. 8. Pod wrażeniem wkładu zespołu Noxious Ruin zlecił mu nagranie splitu z niemieckim Vomitspell.

W 2024 roku Selfmadegod Records wydało split BARREN ze szwedzkim grindcore’owym zespołem Sickrecy, który spotkał się z dużym wsparciem międzynarodowej społeczności grindcore’owej. BARREN kontynuował tę passę w 2025 roku, wydając 10" split z Lesser Animal, a później 7" split z Distaste.

Ováte zapowiadają nowy materiał

 

After years of silence and dedication, Ováte return from the abyss with their new offering Rúin, forged by Aindiachaí (Gorgoroth) on guitars/bass and Brodd (ex-Taake) on drums. Eight years have passed since the band’s self-titled debut, and Rúin now reopens the wound; deeper, colder, and more deliberate. The new album will be out on 6th November via Soulseller Records.

Pre-orders, album info and the first single 'Kutsumus' will drop on 4th September.

A defining hallmark of Ováte’s sound remains intact: once again, every track is a collaboration with a different guest vocalist, turning the album into a shifting procession of voices and maledictions. Each performance adds a new layer to the record’s blackened craft, while the core duo keeps the blade steady. Sharp riffs, ritualistic momentum, and a trance-like pull that feels both predatory and strangely ceremonial.

On Rúin, Ováte list an exceptional cast from the Norwegian and wider extreme metal underground: Spellgoth (Horna), H’grimmr (Helheim), Thomas S. Øvstedal (Cor Scorpii), Sanrabb (Gehenna), Ødemark (The Last Eon / The Third Attempt) and Hoest (Taake). The result is a record that moves with relentless intent, yet rich in atmosphere, with each track carrying its own curse.

Sentient Ruin is proud and honored to announce that Death. Void. Terror. continue their marvelous aural transfiguration. "To The Great Monolith III: Rifts" is the band's first full-length utterance of the Monolith in five years, and its most shattering revelation yet.

The mesmerizing upcoming new album follows the recent precursor EP "To The Great Monolith 2.5" released just last month, and has now been anticipated by expert extreme metal outlet No Clean Singing, who in premiering the closing track "V. "To The Great Monolith III: Rifts" is a seismic convergence of primordial trance and awakened consciousness, tearing open the boundaries of improvisation to expose the essence of catharsis. The rift is both metaphor and confession: a fracture in doctrine, a deliberate wound inflicted upon orthodoxy by the practitioners themselves, as conscious composition enters the sacred architecture for the first time, insurgent and unapologetic. Pulsing bass lines consciously sculpted, and around them, the instinctual maelstrom, constructing vortices of the inner chaos. A perceived heresy that in truth signals only deeper initiation. What pours through the rift is devastating. Abyssal, chaos-wielding atmospheric black/death metal mutated into ecstatic occult rock and tribal hallucinatory sprawl. The specter of the ancient ones running through gorges and dissolving into monolithic darkness, transfigured beyond recognition yet more itself than ever. Vocals conjured in no known tongue, surrendered without will to the Monolith in liturgical precision. A sonic entity shedding skin, growing new flesh, irrigated by ritual and animated by an internal battle between instinct and will, trance and reflection, doctrine and heresy. On its surface, a rift captured and made literal. In its depths, an existential fracture splitting open five years of metamorphosis and unleashing its monstrous sonic deluge. Italian architects of esoteric extreme metal URNA will release their new album, "The Great Jihad", on October 16th, 2026 via ATMF, the label that has supported the band since their landmark full-length "Sepulcrum"..

More poisonous and tense than its predecessors, "The Great Jihad" retains the crushing atmosphere and funeral doom connection that have long defined URNA, while pushing their faster passages towards a harsher, more abrasive form of black metal. Amid the weight and aggression, vast, sideral melodies emerge from the darkness, adding a solemn dimension to an album steeped in occult and esoteric atmospheres. The result is a work that feels both familiar and renewed, balancing oppressive density with moments of stark, otherworldly beauty.

For the first time, URNA present an album with lyrics entirely in English. With the exception of their 2003 debut "Justa Funebria", originally performed in Italian, the band's releases have traditionally employed Latin. The conceptual framework once again expands RM's personal spiritual journey through Hermetism, approaching the notion of duality from an esoteric perspective and exploring its many manifestations..

"The Great Jihad" also introduces new collaborators to the lineup, with Sibilans (Anamnesi, Simulacro) on drums and T (Sangue Nero) on bass. The album was recorded through multiple sessions between 2014 and 2025, across Italy and the United Kingdom, before being mixed and mastered at MZ's 322 Studio in early 2026. The artwork was created by Francesco Gemelli.

Norwegian melodic black metal veterans ISKALD have unveiled the second official teaser for their upcoming sixth full-length album, "Curse of the Mind", due out on September 25th via Dusktone. Following the first preview, this new teaser offers another glimpse into the album's dark and expansive atmosphere, bringing together further excerpts from across the record. Rather than revealing a single composition in isolation, the teaser highlights the different shades that shape "Curse of the Mind", from its melodic black metal foundations to its more imposing and atmospheric passages, offering a broader taste of what ISKALD have prepared for their return.

On September 25th internationally, Nespithe Records is proud to present Lord Gryphus' highly anticipated debut album, Summoning the King of Death, on CD format.

Austin, Texas death metal outfit Lord Gryphus have emerged from the underground with their debut full-length, Summoning the King of Death. Built on the foundations of 'early 90s extreme metal, the band delivers a raw, ritual-driven sound that blends crushing aggression with oppressive atmosphere and a deep reverence for death.

Channeling the spirit of genre pioneers like Morbid Angel, Gorefest, Sepultura, Grave, Autopsy, Incantation, and Sinister, Lord Gryphus forge a sound rooted in primitive death metal execution, atmosphere, and confrontation.

The band operates as a three-piece anonymous unit, all masked, drawing from deep roots in the extreme metal underground. Their identity and concept revolve around execution, sacrifice, and ritual devotion to a carrion deity known as Lord Gryphus, inspired by Vultur gryphus, the Andean condor, a symbol tied to death, transcendence, and spiritual power.

Lyrically and thematically, Lord Gryphus confront colonial violence, cultural erasure, and imposed religion, while honoring ancestral traditions and forgotten histories. The result is a release that is as ideological as it is sonic, built around ritual, resistance, and death as a force of reverence rather than fear.

Summoning the King of Death was recorded at Red Nova Ranch in Bastrop, Texas with Jeff Henson handling tracking, reamping, guitars, and bass. Vocals were recorded and produced by Kike Valderrama at Buziraco’s Lair Studio. The album was mixed and mastered by Andrés Mauricio Gallón at Sound Blast Studios in Armenia, Colombia.

The record includes a cover of “Troops Of Doom,” originally by Sepultura, along with guest vocals from Reese Alavi (Creeping Death) and a guitar solo by Mike De León (Flesh Hoarder / Soulfly), adding further weight to its underground impact.

Lord Gryphus recently appeared alongside legendary death metal veterans Internal Suffering on select dates of their 30th anniversary North American tour, bringing their ceremonial style of devastation to stages across the southern United States.

Says the band: “This album is our declaration of allegiance to death metal in its purest form. Influenced by the savage spirit of the early '90s, Summoning the King of Death delivers raw aggression, ritualistic atmosphere, and a reverence for death that transcends time and culture.”
