On January 12th, 2027 internationally, W.T.C. Productions is proud to present Avgrum's highly anticipated debut album, Womb of Death, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.
Avgrum is an entity formed by Abraxas Nox as a musical vessel to explore the journeys and inspirations that come from the immersion in death. The idea of Avgrum was built over many years - a first demo, also titled Womb of Death, appeared in 2017 - yet a final shaping and forging of their upcoming debut album began in 2022. With the enlistment of drummer Flo Musil - renown for such bands as Theotoxin, The Negative Bias, and Agrypnie among others - the two seasoned musicians utilized the masterful talents of Necromorbus Studios to create a malevolent and ominous first album.
At last upon us, the full-length Womb of Death is a vibrant display of gleaming, boundless obsidian. To be sure, Avgrum's black metal is firmly rooted in the 1990s, particularly the Swedish school of spiraling nightside melody, but peer deeper into their cauldron and one will find dread expanses that elevate their sound beyond those faithlessly miming second-wave cosplay. Abraxas Nox's strings weave ceaselessly undulating waves of majestic-yet-malicious emotion, continually cresting and cascading into something that's a sustained catharsis; similarly, his clearly annunciated snarl gives commanding voice to these ultra-dimensional sensations. Rising to the occasion, Musil's drumming locates that acute balance between controlled ultraviolence and superlative chops put in the service of each song, dictating dynamics and playing poignant counterpoint to Nox's equally superlative riffing. That Womb of Death manages to maintain a unified headspace whilst exploring a relatively wide landscape further underlines Avgrum's already advanced mastery, and the crisp production simply crystalizes the class and craft at hand - all without dimming one whit the burning flame of truest black metal.
