Hissing
"Permanent Destitution"
Hissing is a three-man band
from Seattle, USA, which was born four years ago and after the release
of two EPs, a demo and a split with Sutekh Hexen, now strikes with a
debut album. And they do it unceremoniously, as with "Permanent
Distitution" they’re kicking the door to the death metal elite open. Or
maybe the “Portal to the elite" is even more relevant, as Portal is a
key-word here. From the first tunes of the album opening "Backwards
Descent" it becomes clear, that the music created by clock-headed
Aussies is the closest to the hissing hearts. However, it is not
mindless copying of the masters, simply the work of an exceptionally
gifted apprentice. We will find here wicked tremolo riffs and
dissonances, but it’s not everything the trio has to offer on the album.
Each song is completely thought out and teeming with its own life, but
only together they create a real monster. Once in a while you are faced
to unleashed chaos, to feel crushing deceleration and brain drilling
riffs afterwards. The sound of the album is gloomy but clear enough to
listen, and not wonder “what the hell the author had in mind”. This is
definitely not the type of an album to be given two or three hours. I’ve
been immersed in it for the last two weeks and still feel I haven’t
discovered all it has to offer. Give the album the time it deserves and
thou shalt be rewarded. The last one on the album “Perdurance” ends up
with an almost industrial motif, so hypnotizing, that willing or not I
fall to the ground and crawl towards my player to press the play button,
so I could find myself in the beginning of the infernal journey again. I
rise and suffer for another 35 minutes, to fall ... and rise again ...
And again ... And again ... Definitely one of the best debut albums this
year.
