Debiut MITTAGS-ABGRUND we wrześniu

 

Today, Darkness Shall Rise Productions announces September 15th as the international release date for Mittags-Abgrund's striking debut album, Mittags-Abgrund, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.

In lieu of this announcement, Mittags-Abgrund reveal the first track "Портреты моих предков." An ageing culture and its ossified forms gaze upon man and tower above him. The late man walks among them as through a museum, mistaking this sepulchral silence for the order of the world. Faceless das Man exists only by remaining closed to the challenge of time, dissolved within ready-made forms. He escapes into systems, into books, into ordered architectures of meaning. "A thought once uttered is a lie": a thought not lived is but a pseudo-truth. Life becomes a commentary upon itself - the book, an interpretation of another book. Culture chews and spits out its own remains. History ceases to create and begins to interpret. The judgment of time is a morphological necessity without any morality. Originally spawned in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2022 by sole member Sch., Mittags-Abgrund's album was a long time in the making, which Darkness Shall Rise now has the great pleasure of releasing. Although the self-titled full-length is Mittags-Abgrund's very first official release, it’s fortunately, in no way, plagued by any of the shortcomings one usually encounters with new bands. Instead, the album's nine epic anthems (including intro and outro), together clocking in at 48 minutes, boast with confidence and pridefully storm from victory to victory. Sonically, successfully blurring musically the line between black metal and death metal by organically merging elements from both genres into a vigorous hybrid, Sch.'s dynamic creations disclose compositional skill and musical aptitude alike. Guest musician F.’s mind-blowing drumming performance deserves to be highlighted, too. His skills are way above average and considerably contribute to the album’s appeal.

With lyrics entirely penned in his native Russian and performed in a strikingly versatile way– spanning sinister howling, grim croaking reminiscent of Armagedda, and clean chanting–while compositionally somewhat resembling the triumphant grandeur of Aeternus, Immortal, or Bölzer with a healthy dose of riffs akin to Morbid Angel thrown in for good measure, Mittags-Abgrund turned out a triumph on all levels.
