Today, Caligari Records announces June 26th as the international release date for Citrinitas' highly anticipated second demo, Telestic Ekstasis, on cassette tape format.
At the beginning of this year, Caligari revealed Unending Descent, the public debut of Finland's Citrinitas. Mysterious to the extreme, the 13-minute demo was a multi-layered meltdown at the nexus of fucked death metal, even-more-fucked doom, and outsider black metal. Keeping that prodigious momentum going, Citrinitas quickly return with Telestic Ekstasis, their second demo. Both more approachable and more alien, Telestic Ekstasis goes all in on ghostly, garaged reverb and a penetrating pulse of soul-searing hook. It's not impossible to imagine these three songs each continuing infinitely, reverberating back in on this themselves like a black hole, so strong are their respective hooks - ominous, otherworldly, DOOMED - but ever so patient in their movement. The closing title track, in particular, perfectly captures this sensation: nearly seven minutes of stars dying, with inevitably doomed ones being born within their cosmic ashes. That the voice(s) of Citrinitas seemingly fight against this dying of the interstellar light makes Telestic Ekstasis all the more penetrating...and perverse. The enigma continues doing enigmatic things.
