Today, Purity Through Fire announces June 5th as the international release date for a brand-new mini-album from Tårfödd, Skyfall, on CD format.

Since their formation in 2022, Sweden's Tårfödd have become a prolific force in the DSBM scene. With six full-lengths to date as well as nine singles, two EPs, and a couple collaborative records, mainman Simon Lindgren is a man possessed: supreme melancholy, bittersweet majesty, Technicolor textures, and soul-draining emotion have all become his stock in trade. And while it's not often that Purity Through Fire steps into depressive black metal waters, the label made an exception in 2025 for the release of Lidande and followed it up earlier this year with the band's sixth album, Mörker täcker livets ljus.

Now, with Tårfödd's whole catalog available under the banner of Purity Through Fire, Lindgren quickly returns with a brand-new mini-album. Titled Skyfall, the four-song / 32-minute record almost feels like a full-length, so (characteristically) immersive its mournful depths. Here, Lindgren handles literally everything - the LP predecessor featured guest vocalist Revenant (Sarkrista, Order of Nosferat, Siechknecht, Velmorth et. al.) on five of its nine tracks - and fittingly, it's arguably Tårfödd's rawest recording thus far. A plaintive acoustic instrumental, "Förödelse," suitably sets the stage in its hauntingly beautiful six minutes. "Förödelse II" follows, and that's when the real bloodletting begins: the record's comparatively barebones presentation only makes those depths inkier and more inviting...to drown in. Lindgren's execution remains as superlative as ever, his chops serving to illustrate his tortured vision to the fullest, and the dramatic drops to quietude here hit fucking HARD. If anything, while recasting the Tårfödd aesthetic through a grimmer or at least less-layered lens, Skyfall serves to remind the listener that this is BLACK METAL above all - bittersweet, yes, but black metal all the same.
