On October 16th internationally, Caligari Records and Seed of Doom Records will release Funerary Rites of Ancient Doom, a special split album between Nekus and Bloodsoaked Necrovoid, on vinyl LP format.
A dream team-up between two of sepulchral death metal's mightiest hordes, Funerary Rites of Ancient Doom brings together Germany's Nekus and transplanted Costa Ricans Bloodsoaked Necrovoid for four tracks and 36 minutes of exclusive material. Nekus are up first with a MAMMOTH 19-minute track. While it's their only song here, "Dakhma" boils the blood and then sluices it into a viscous pit of despair, effortlessly shifting from bestial gnashing & grinding and desolate, funereal trudge. To say that Nekus continue their characteristic application of the avant-garde to total caveman constructions is an understatement here.
Not to be outdone, Bloodsoaked Necrovoid occupy Side B of the LP with three brand-new tracks. The band have recently relocated to Spain, and while their releases since 2020's Expelled Into the Unknown Depths of the Unfathomable debut album have been of the shorter variety, they more than compensate with cavernous quality. An eerie intro sets the tone before two expulsions of Bloodsoaked Necrovoid's suffocating sound. Also characteristically, those sounds are more like slow-motion grind than proper doom-death, and become even more unsettling when they kick into their own bestial pulses. That there's even more atmosphere than ever makes their alchemy all the more alluring... Truly, these are Funerary Rites of Ancient Doom!
